Towards the end of the week we discover the stunning lakes and waterfalls of the most famous Croatian National Park – PLITVICE LAKES.
Itinerary / 8 days
Arrival to Zagreb airport and transfer to Crikvenica, at the heart of the Kvarner Bay coast.
Hiking in the National Park Risnjak – a world of green forests and white karstic mountains, home to an extraordinary wildlife with more than 1000 plant species and subspecies.
Transfer to the Zavizan mountain hut at the heart of National Park North Velebit – our youngest national park. A 6h walk to the Alan mountain hut, passing through the unusually wild and rugged Rozanski Kukovi, with stunning views at the islands and Adriatic sea, 1300-1600 m beneath our trail.
Discovery of the Paklenica national park. Paklenica is home to the two impressive canyons of Velika and Mala Paklenica, vertically cut into the mountain where climbers from all across Europe ply their trade. In a relatively small area of the national park, there are several unusual karst forms, several caves, and extremely rich and varied flora and fauna. Our 6-hour walk takes us through the quietest areas of the park, passing the unusual Mirila, the stone monument markings connected to the former funeral customs of the local population which is a unique phenomenon of this region, village of Tomici and finishing in the main canyon itself.
Rest day. You may enjoy one of the optional trips in Velebit Park of Nature, suggested by our tour leader – an exciting rafting at the nearby Zrmanja river or a jeep safari that takes you through the most beautiful areas of South Velebit. Having a rest day at the beach is also one of the great options this day offers.
Transfer towards the National Park of Krka. We start our walk “off the beaten path”, at the quiet area around Cikola river. Here, at the borders of the national park, with no tourist around us, we enjoy the beautiful meadows around the river and interesting surrounding villages. Later on we go into the heart of the National Park, in order to discover the stunning waterfalls of Krka river.
